Sunday 27th April: Kelham Island crawl.

  • When: 1230-1400ish.

  • Start/end point: Depot Bakery, 92 Burton Rd., S3 8BX
    what3words: ///region.sank.gossip

  • Distance: 3km.

  • Terrain: paved, with some cobbled sections.

Kelham Island is synonymous with factories, steelworks, and cutlery makers, but what does it sound like, and how might it have sounded in its industrial heyday? We will walk the streets around the manmade island, stopping to listen at points of architectural, natural, and historic interest, to learn more about the place and our present-day connection with it. As usual, bring something to document your noticeings if you like, and I’ll bring some printouts for everyone with a map, prompts, and some info about the area.
